Sixth Writing Trait

#6 Trait of Writing – Conventions

This writing trait includes the following:

  1. Spelling
  2. Punctuation
  3. Capitalization
  4. Grammar
  5. Paragraphing.

Conventions should be taken very seriously. Misspellings could make a reader not take the writing seriously and maybe even lose interest in continuing. Incorrect or a lack of proper punctuation could bring confusion. Capitalization helps make the reader aware of when a new sentence starts. A lack of capitalization could also make a sentence seem like run-on. Paragraphing helps reinforce organization.

These conventions can freely manipulated by the writer and if done well can be very effective.
